Do I stay or do I go?
Ultimately, I don’t want to leave this platform. I don’t like the fact that I am breathing the same Substack air as accounts like, for example, Andkon’s Reich Press, but if I leave, am I not tilting the demographic balance in favor of Substack writers like them? By the way, that hot mess has been up and running for two entire years already. Second, these accounts are countered by a slew of others arguing against this same rhetoric, racist, homophobic sexist screeds, and people who use things like Renaud Camus’s ‘Great Replacement Theory’ to back up their arguments.
I never see any of these sites in my feed, but I’m not forgetting that they are here. I will say again that fascist rhetoric is not just another POV. The thing is, you find these same people on TwitterX, and I need that platform. I have no say over who subscribes there or here, but then again, is that something I should have? I don’t follow these accounts, I block them. Michael Gerber posted an article about the founder’s responsibility to Substack, which I recommend you read.
In Gerber’s opinion, which I agree with, they cannot. The founders of Substack might just find this out the hard way.
So case closed….for the time being.
Happy new year to you all and thanks for reading!
