This is an early preview of the illustrations I’m working on for “The Amarok”. I have always wanted to do a children’s story, but never seem to have found time or the subject. Now I suddenly have both. I have been slowly assembling a body of images that have to do with these two characters to define their relationship. It’s the first time that I work this way. Usually, I’ve fit the images into the text. I thought I might shake things up a bit by letting the images lead the way.
Unlike other things I’m working on, I have no deadline for this project, so it’s evolving slowly. As I delve into the design, I’m experimenting with different formats.
For me, the most crucial thing is to figure out what the target age group is. I’ve already decided that this is going to be a spooky story. The first idea I tried didn’t work as well as I had hoped, so I’ve gone back to the drawing board. It’s a process! I will write about it again when I have a breakthrough.
Haha!! Crickets.
