Hey, Malcolm. Thanks. It probably will be at least the size of a novella. It's really cool working extemporaneously. Like Jilly's painting.
In terms of narration, it's a bit like 'The Great Gatsby'. First person - minor character narration. First time I'm trying it, and I really, really like it.
What do you mean 'almost' vindicates? You hate 1st person narration, I take it. ;)
Yeah, generally speaking, first-person isn't my fave. I find it's either limiting in terms of the amount you can communicate, or you wind up giving way too much information when you combine the actions and dialogue with all the stuff going on in the person's head. But there are exceptions. You have a clear intent here. You're right, it would be a totally different type of story with the focus on the G Golly character. Instead he's almost this Music Man type figure
Very interesting setting. I could read a whole novel of this. The prose is so good that it almost vindicates first-person narratives for me entirely

Yet each kind of narration can be used to optimal effect. No one is better or worse than any other. Find the right tool for the job I always say. ;)
